Great effort by our Jyoshinmon members who participated at the 2024 National Karate Championships!
This event was held at the Auckland Netball Centre stadium on 6th-7th September and it's the biggest tournament in the Karate New Zealand calendar. Our members were competing in Premier divisions and gained valuable mat time with more experienced players.
Hannah Rajkumar took part in the Team Kumite division with North Island versus the team from South Island. It was very exciting with all the different age groups competing and Team North Island winning by only 1 point!

50 Years of Karate New Zealand
After the tournament there was an informal gathering to celebrate 50 years of KNZ as the official governing body of karate in New Zealand. Shihan David Bennett recounted his experience with KNZ as a Referee for over 30 years, and Sensei Beaty Bennett had been the Chairperson for Karate Auckland. Both have supported the National Team over the years as they travelled to different countries for the Commonwealth Karate Championships, Oceania Karate Federation and World Karate Federation Championships.
