Karate New Zealand training camp for all competitors who wish to be considered for national team selection. This two-day event is held after the KNZ National Championships at the Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua.
Assistant coaches were Shihan David Bennett, Sensei Beaty Bennett and Sensei Jason Ng, who was also the only KNZ Referee present throughout the camp.
Sensei Jason also presented a session on tournament rules, particularly on WKF rules for those who will be competing at the 2014 Oceania Karate Championships.
Sensei Chris Bennett who is a member of the Executive Committee and the Coaching Council of Karate New Zealand, was one of the Selectors for the national team. Sensei Chris also ran training sessions in kata and kumite.
Jyoshinmon student Sian Scott ran the last session of the camp with a "Blow Out" session involving tricep dips, speed punching, overhead lifts and running lengths. Training in pairs of mixed abilities and age with a time limit to complete all the exercises which was all done to music to pump up everyone.
It was an excellent camp with good feedback and most importantly everyone seemed to have fun.
