We had 13 entries and in total won 14 medals – a great result for the club. All our participants performed well and deserved their success.
Zak Scott and Mexha Sane both performed well as usual, although Mexha’s final Kumite bout was ended early when her opponent could not continue. Always they are under pressure in 2 very competitive divisions.
Jose Castillo worked hard and deserved the medals he won.
Kaitlyn (in 10-11 years Female) and John Peyroux-Bob (in 8-9 years Male) both performed well and were unlucky not to win a medal.
Bikram Vir Singh has become a much improved fighter - well done to him.
Tyler Betham-Spencer, Juan and Skylar Castillo are 3 very classy competitors – always winning medals. These 3 members are becoming the rising stars of Jyoshinmon.
Aryan Nigudkar did a great performance and placed 4th at his first tournament (in 10-11 years Male), showing lots of promise. Also another good and improving competitor from the Onehunga dojo, Ma'afu Vaka was unlucky not to win a medal (in 8-9 years Male).
This was the first tournament for Hine Kearns. As a senior in the development division, this was always going to be hard. But she performed well enough to get gold in kata and was fearless in kumite as a result from lots of hard training.
Harry Ng gets better with every competition though may suffer from a lack of oxygen due to the height he operates at.
Sensei Jason Ng as usual was one of the Karate New Zealand Referees at the event for both Kata and Kumite.
Special thanks to Hine, Jojina and Sian Scott for volunteering to be table officials, and Junior Coaches Mexha, Zak and Jose.
Not forgetting our Senior Coaches and Officials Sensei Beaty Bennett, Sensei Chris Bennett, and Sensei Chante Betham.
Thank you,
