Karate New Zealand warmly invites clubs, athletes, coaches, officials, whānau, and supporters to join us for the 2026 National Karate Championships.
As the final national event of the year, following the NZ Cup and NZ Open, Nationals is a special opportunity for athletes from across Aotearoa New Zealand to come together, enjoy great competition, represent their clubs with pride, and compete for the honour of being crowned National Champion.
This Championship is also an important event for athletes who are looking ahead to selection opportunities over the next 12 months. Strong performances at Nationals can help athletes show their progress, build confidence, and strengthen their position for future national team, international, and development pathway opportunities.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
• Clean white gi, pants and sleeves at correct length but must not be rolled up and should be sewn
• Gi to have Jyoshinmon badge
• ALL KUMITE COMPETITORS MUST WEAR Mouth guards, Body protectors, Red and Blue belts, and Red and Blue hand mitts (matching the belt they are competing in), Foot protectors must match the belt colour
• Male Kumite competitors must wear a groin protector
• Female Kumite 11-year-olds and above – Advised to wear approved chest protectors under the body protector (will be provided at the tournament)
• Headgear mandatory for Under 14 (will be provided at the tournament)
