The Auckland Karate League events in 2025 will introduce preliminary Round-Robin qualifying rounds for all events with pools of up to 5 competitors.
Pool winners will qualify for the quarterfinals or semifinals, which then proceed on an elimination basis to the medal rounds. This ensures that every competitor gets at least two matches.
The round-robin preliminary rounds format means there will no longer be a need for repechage.
