JYOSHINMON SHORIN-RYU

Congratulations to the 15 Jyoshinmon team members who competed at the 2018 Auckland Championships!

This event was an open karate tournament organised by Karate Auckland and was held at the Auckland Netball Centre, St Johns.

Sensei Jason Ng made the opening welcome as Chairperson of Karate Auckland. Sensei Jason was also one of the attending National Referees for both Kata and Kumite. Senpais Zak Scott, Jojina Scott and Sian Scott participated as Karate New Zealand Regional Judges. They passed their Referee and Judge examination and all upgraded to Judge B in Kata and Kumite. Congratulations to the 3 of you!

Shihan David Bennett, Sensei Beaty Bennett and Sensei Chris Bennett coached our team, with assistance from Senpai Zak for Joshua Emmerson's kumite match. Unfortunately Sensei Chante Betham was not well enough to coach, with her son Tyler Spencer-Betham and Preston Littlechild were also too sick to compete.

For some of our members, this was their first tournament and they placed in the top 3! Anders Falstie-Jensen was our first Veteran competitor in some years and won gold. A great team achievement!

A big Thank You to the parents and Jyoshinmon members who helped to set up the venue and provided loud cheering for all our team. Our gratitude to those helped as Table Staff and Marshalls - Catherine Sabine who showed Jacquie the ropes on how to be table staff, Kirsten MacDonald, Seraphine Williams and Senpai Sevita Laufoli and Senpai Jose Castillo.
