Congratulations to our young Jyoshinmon team!
There were 17 participating at the regional tournament organised by Karate Auckland, with 16 of them getting at least one medal placing. The event was held at the ASB Centre in Whangarei, and for some of our members this was their first tournament outside of Auckland.
Sensei Chris Bennett made the opening address as KNZ Secretary-General before the start of the tournament on behalf of Sensei Jason Ng who was unable to attend. Sensei Jason is also the Chairperson of Karate Auckland, as well as a National Judge and Referee for both Kata and Kumite.
Shihan David Bennett, Sensei Beaty Bennett, and Sensei Chante Betham provided coaching and support for the whole team.
Thank you to our Shodans who helped as Table Officials - Zak Scott and Sian Scott. And thank you to the parents for their support, especially Juan Castillo who helped as a Mat Official. Senpai Jojina Scott was one of the attending Regional Judges for Kata and Kumite, along with Senpai Jose Castillo who assisted with judging.
Sensei Chris also managed Sportdata for the tournament draws and provided tech support, plus trained the local karate-ka in using the system as Table Staff to help the event run more smoothly.
