Second Jyoshinmon Interclub Day for 2017 was held at the Honbu (main dojo) with members attending from the 3 Dojos in Auckland, wanting tournament training. The event started with Kumite training and explanation of the Kumite rules for the competitor in a tournament, which follows World Karate Federation rules and regulations, particularly how points are awarded.
The Shodans took turns to judge and be the Referee under the guidance of Sensei Jason Ng who is a Karate New Zealand National Referee in both Kata and Kumite. The Black Belts (Senpai) who helped during the event were - Zak Scott, Sevita Sabine, Jojina Scott, Jose Castillo, Bruce Sabine, Ross Sabine and Sian Scott.
Sensei Darren Blomfield and Sensei Chante Betham provided coaching to those fighting in order to get used to having and listening to a coach during a kumite competition.
Shihan David Bennett, Sensei Beaty Bennett and Sensei Chris Bennett would like to thank everyone involved in making the day run more smoothly and appreciate the parents for their support.
A Raffle was held to raise funds for those travelling to Tokyo, Japan, for the Jyoshinmon 48th Anniversary and Ikeda Memorial Cup, as well as the 40th Womens Training Tournament. One family was most supportive by buying a lot of tickets. Congratulations to Skylar Castillo for winning 1st prize, and to her brother Juan who won the second prize.
