A smaller team this year at the New Zealand Karate Open with Sensei Chris Bennett coaching Sei Ana Hugo and her little sister Michaela Rikki. Both attending this international tournament for the first time, with competitors from French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
Sensei Jason Ng who is an A-Grade National Referee and Judge for Karate New Zealand, was of course officiating at both Kata and Kumite events. Senpai Jojina Scott was backup support to the Table Staff and assisted at the final event of Day 1.
Senpai Zak Scott and sister Sian competed in the Senior categories, as well as providing support to our young Jyoshinmon members with their mother Dawn. Well done to our 4 team members who all won medal placings, in particular Michaela Rikki who won both her kata and kumite categories!
