NewsThis year we drove in a convoy down to Wellington for the Karate New Zealand Nationals and the National Secondary Schools Championships. Most of us stayed in one big property and it was a fun team-bonding stay.
Great effort by our 11 Jyoshinmon team members, most winning at least 1 medal, though Mason Stewart was very unlucky this time. Well done to Skylar Castillo for winning Gold in both her divisions. Thanks to the training and coaching by Shihan David Bennett, Sensei Beaty Bennett and Sensei Chris Bennett.
Sensei Jason Ng participated as National Referee and Judge for Karate New Zealand for both Kata and Kumite events. Senpai Jojina Scott assisted as a Table Official for Sportdata entry, and Senpai Theresa Stowers as Marshall. Both awarded their certification as National Match Officials by the Karate New Zealand Referee Council.
It was nice that Senpai Kayla Stowers was able to get leave from the NZ Army and join the parents in cheering for the whole team. Thank you to Bruce Laufoli for taking photos on both days of the competition.
