Last National Training Camp of the year organised by Karate New Zealand (KNZ), held after the New Zealand National Karate Championships at the Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua. Attendance is required to be considered for national team selection to represent New Zealand at international tournaments.
Jyoshinmon members taking part in the training - Juan Castillo, Jose Castillo, Mexha Sane, Sian Scott and Zak Scott. This was Juan's first Wellington camp and pleased that he enjoyed it. Hopefully his younger sister Skylar will join him next year.
The camp is a 2-day event which usually starts with the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test and Zak was one of the last two participants in the over 16-yrs group, achieving his best result. The last session is usually the Blow-Out and like last year Sian Scott led everyone through their paces, ending with the dreaded "Sally" exercise.
As a National Coach, Sensei Chris Bennett took the training for two kumite sessions with Sensei Beaty Bennett providing assistance. Gratefully one of the sessions included a massage. In the Kata sessions, there were opportunites to learn a kata of a different style and Shihan David Bennett taught Bassai Sho to students from other clubs.
Well done to our Jyoshinmon members who got selected for the New Zealand Team and good luck at your tournaments!
