Congratulations to our 5 Jyoshinmon members who competed at the New Zealand Open, an international tournament organised by Karate New Zealand - Canterbury/Westland Karate Association.
This 2-day event was held at the Pioneer Sports Stadium in Christchurch, with teams from Australia and Tahiti. Each day would start with traditional Japanese drumming during assembly of all teams, with Cadet to Senior competitors on Day 1 and Children on Day 2. A minute's silence was held in respect for Shihan Bob Dalton, Chief Instructor of Karatedo Shitoryu New Zealand who sadly passed away last February.
Shihan David Bennett as Coach and member of the NZ Technical Council and National Team Selector, Sensei Beaty Bennett as Coach, and Sensei Chris Bennett as Coach and National Team Selector plus a member of the Karate New Zealand Executive Board.
Sensei Jason Ng was one of the Senior Referees for Kata and Kumite. Assisting as Team Manager - Senpai Jojina Scott. Team supporters - Lyn, Jolene, Dave, Cathy and Sevita.
Unfortunately Senpai Mexha Sane was unable to compete because of injury after the national training camp prior to the competition. But Mexha was still able to help our team by giving advice and support.

The 2nd KNZ National Training Camp (pictured above) took place before the New Zealand Open Championships due to venue availability, as this 2-day squad training normally takes place afterwards.
Attendance at all 3 national camps scheduled during the year as well as participation in the major tournaments is required in order to be considered for selection in the team representing New Zealand.
