Central North Island Open - regional championships held at the Te Rapa Sports Dome in Hamilton, organised by Karate New Zealand - CNI Region.
Jyoshinmon coaches were Shihan David Bennett, Sensei Beaty Bennett, and Sensei Chris Bennett who also helped with the judging when needed.
Also assisting with the judging in both kata and kumite were Senpai Zak Scott, Jojina Scott and Sian Scott. Our other black belts - Mexha Sane, Sevita Laufoli, Bruce Laufoli and Ross Laufoli - provided support to our juniors when it was their turn to compete, along with their proud parents. A special thank you to Sian Scott and Wendy Hinemoana Kearns for taking the images for the photo gallery above.
Fantastic effort by whole team and even though Michaela Rikki Hugo was unlucky to get a medal, she was fearless against opponents taller than her. Wendy Hinemoana Kearns no longer in the development catergory and got good experience in competing at premier events. Senpai Sevita Laufoli usually gets a medal placing but she also had tough competition.
