Karate New Zealand held the first of the three National Training Camps for the year, which was a 4-day event and held in Auckland from 26-29th January. Attendance is required in order to be considered for selection into the National team.
Sensei Chris Bennett arranged for new sessions into the training programme that included talks by Sian Scott, Ryan Ashton, Rebecca Watkin and Emile Clayton - all of whom have degrees in Exercise, Sports Science (which includes Nutrition) and Sports Psychology.
The usual Beep Test was replaced with the Intermittent Yo-Yo Test which was more suited to karate training as recommended by Sian Scott who is also a Jyoshinmon member. Most people survived her Blow-Out session and proved to be popular, even among the parents who watched but for some reason the Sally-song exercise wasn't so popular. At least the Coaches joined in this time!
There were 8 from Jyoshinmon at the camp who intend to compete this year, and assisting with the coaching was Shihan David Bennett, Sensei Beaty Bennett, Sensei Chris Bennett and Sensei Jason Ng.
