I have been training at Jyoshinmon since I was 13. Since then, Karate has shaped my morals, attitudes, and beliefs in almost all aspects of my life. It is a constant reminder to stay resilient, disciplined, and to work hard in everything I do in and outside of Karate.
I have competed in a number of tournaments nationally since, the more recent being the NZ Nationals, NZ Cup, and Auckland Championships. During the 55th Anniversary of Jyoshinmon in Japan, I was able to attend and compete internationally for the first time, achieving a Bronze medal in the Senior Women’s Kumite Division.
Besides the competitive nature of this sport, Jyoshinmon has become a second family to me, and the communal aspect of this sport means that I get to meet new people and connect with others every day.
Karate has given me so many opportunities for personal growth and learning. To me, karate is more than just a sport, but a lifelong commitment to the art, others, and more importantly oneself.
I train and help teach at the New Lynn Dojo.
