Instructor - Sensei Ross Sabine
Sandan Grade
It’s hard to convey just how much Jyoshinmon Shorin-Ryu Karate means to me – it's woven into the fabric of my life, as natural and necessary as breathing. We don't often think about the air that sustains us, yet without it, everything would fall apart.
Saying I "live and breathe" Jyoshinmon Karate barely scratches the surface. Through years of dedication, Karate has been my greatest guide. It has taught me the power of discipline – how to navigate emotions, embrace sacrifice, and cultivate resilience. The lessons of patience have been invaluable too, reminding me that while progress may sometimes be slow, the rewards are all the sweeter when earned through self-control and perseverance.
Outside the dojo, these lessons have shaped not only how I move through life but also how I understand myself. As an aspiring psychologist, I’ve become fascinated by how the discipline of Karate has shaped my morals, attitudes, and beliefs. It’s given me insight into human behaviour, sparking my curiosity about the mind and the ways we can harness self-awareness to grow, both mentally and emotionally. Now, as a Sensei, my journey has come full circle.
I hold close the saying, "the bird flies far but will always return to the water". No matter how far I've come, I return to my roots with a deep sense of responsibility – to disseminate the wisdom, strength, and character that Jyoshinmon has instilled in me. It’s my calling to help others discover their own paths through Karate, and to be the guide I once needed for others. This is more than just a role for me – it's a lifelong commitment to honouring my art, my students, and the legacy of Jyoshinmon Shorin-Ryu Karate.
